Governor Makinde Sounds Alarm on Migrating Bandits in Oyo State
The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has raised interest about the increasing movement of bandits from Nigeria’s Northwest into Oyo State, a trend he attributes to intensified military operations in their home regions.
This speech was made at the 2025 interfaith church service for workers in Ibadan, Governor Makinde revealed that security reports confirmed the presence of these migrating criminal elements.
“During a security briefing this morning, I was informed that some bad elements from the Northwest are relocating here due to military pressure in their zones,” he said.
He recounted a personal experience during his recent birthday retreat, where bandits were reportedly camped just 2 kilometers from his location. “This underscores the seriousness of the situation,” Makinde said, emphasizing the need for urgent action.
The governor assured residents that his administration is fully committed to tackling the threat. He pledged to work closely with security agencies and traditional leaders to prevent bandits from gaining foothold in the state.
“For us in Oyo, bandits will have no place to operate. I won’t rest until every part of this state is secure,” Makinde vowed.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by Oyo State over the past year, the governor reaffirmed his determination to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. He called on citizens to remain vigilant and to cooperate with security forces in combating criminal activities.
“Together, we can create a safe and secure environment for everyone in Oyo,” he urged everyone in Oyo.
Governor Makinde’s remarks highlight the evolving security landscape in Nigeria as the fight against banditry continues to intensify across the country.
