Funke Akindele and Stephen Oluboyo Top Nollywood Writers’ Box Office Rankings for 2024
The Nollywood star Funke Akindele has made headlines by being named the second highest-grossing writer in Nollywood for 2024, thanks to the success of the film Everybody Loves Jennifer, which has generated an impressive N1.125 billion at the box office. This achievement was announced by Film One on their Instagram page on Friday.
As taking the top spot is Stephen Oluboyo, who has become the highest-grossing Nollywood writer of the year. His films, including Everybody Loves Jennifer, Alakada Bad and Boujee, and Aburo, collectively earned a remarkable N1.38 billion.
The race for the third highest-grossing writer, Anthony Joseph secured his position with revenue from his films Queen Lateefah, The Waiter, and Alakada Bad and Boujee, totaling N780 million.
Jack Enneth Opukeme follows as the fourth highest-grossing writer, with films like Farmer’s Bride and All’s Fair in Love generating N299 million at the box office. Meanwhile, Stephen Okonkwo clinched the fifth position with Ajosepo, which earned N257 million.
Adebayo Tijani and Ola Olaoye share the sixth spot as the highest-grossing writers with Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju, which brought in N253 million. Oluyombo Oluwagbemiga and Toyin Abraham are ranked seventh with Alakada Bad and Boujee, generating N229 million.
Odunlade Adekola and Akorede Ibrahim follow as the eighth highest-grossing writers with their film Lakatabu, which earned N202 million. Ayo Makun holds the ninth position for his work on The Waiter, generating N185 million, while Tunde Babalola rounds out the list as the tenth highest-grossing writer with Funmilayo Ransom Kuti, which made N157 million at the box office.
This remarkable success underscores the growing impact of Nollywood on the global film industry, showcasing the talents of its writers and the increasing appeal of Nigerian cinema.
