Nigerian Troops Eliminate 109 Terrorists and Arrest 81 Suspects in a Week of Action
Within a week of intensified operations, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have successfully neutralized 109 terrorists, apprehended 81 suspects, and rescued 43 kidnapped hostages across various operational theaters in the country. This significant update was shared by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, during a statement made in Abuja on Friday.
Major General Buba highlighted the achievements of the troops, noting that in addition to neutralizing terrorists, they also apprehended six individuals involved in oil theft, preventing an estimated loss of N618.7 million.
The operations yielded impressive results, with troops recovering a variety of weapons and ammunition. Specifically, they seized 21 assorted firearms and 124 rounds of ammunition, which included nine AK-47 rifles, five fabricated rifles, four Dane guns, and several locally made pistols. Other recovered items included seven magazines, 97 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 22 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, five live cartridges, three Baofeng radios, four vehicles, six motorcycles, and four mobile phones.
Within the Niger Delta region, troops discovered and dismantled a number of illegal oil refining operations. They destroyed 10 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, 12 boats, four storage tanks, and 10 illegal refining sites. Additionally, the troops recovered a total of 631,709 liters of stolen crude oil, 3,140 liters of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), and 2,250 liters of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit).
Major General Buba emphasized that the military is committed to maintaining its operational momentum. He assured citizens that they would continue to see improved effectiveness and efficiency from the armed forces as they carry out their duties.
