Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has opened up about the tough time he faced on his journey to stardom, including a prediction from a senior colleague who doubted his staying power in the Yoruba movie industry.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Ogun State-born actor recounted a pivotal moment early in his career. “Someone once told me in the Yoruba movie industry that he gave me one year to see what I would become,” Lateef shared. “I told him to give me two years, and he would see what I would become.”
Role of Resilience and Support
Lateef Adedimeji credits much of his success to his wife, actress Mo Bimpe, who has stood by him despite challenges and harsh criticism. The couple has faced relentless trolling online and shading across the social media, with some critics even targeting Mo Bimpe with hurtful comments about her fertility.
“Bimpe has been a rock for me, despite facing online trolls and hurtful comments. It has gone to the extent of people calling her barren,” Lateef revealed. “She always shows me the messages and says she’ll be fine, but I know it hurts. Her support, especially during my Lisabi project, has been immeasurable.”
The Challenge of Lisabi Production
Lateef Adedimeji shared how his first big-screen project, Lisabi, came with its own set of disappointments. Many people who had initially promised to support him backed out, leaving him to face the challenge almost alone.
“When I wanted to do my first big-screen job, Lisabi, I realized everybody I thought would stand by me was not there. There was nobody. But my wife was there, and she helped me stay confident and focused,” he said.

Speaking about his marriage to Mo Bimpe, Lateef described how he proposed in a straightforward yet heartfelt way. “I just called her one morning and asked if she would marry me, and she said yes,” he shared.
