The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has dismissed the recent communiqué issued by the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasizing that the forum is merely a pressure group within the party and holds no official authority.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Anyanwu reaffirmed his position as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP, stressing that the law remains on his side.

Governors’ Forum Not an Official Party Organ

Addressing the forum’s recent statements, Anyanwu downplayed their significance, stating:

“First and foremost, the PDP Governors’ Forum is not an organ of our party, so I’m unperturbed by the communiqué they issued after their meeting. One fact remains: I am the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.”

He also suggested that the forum’s actions may have been influenced by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, further alleging that their communiqué serves a political agenda rather than reflecting the true position of the party.

Legal Backing and Court Ruling

Anyanwu cited a recent Appeal Court ruling, which issued a stay of execution on an earlier judgment, reinforcing his claim to the position. He assured that the court’s decision clearly supports him, making any opposition legally irrelevant.

“The Court’s current position is clearly in my favour; there is absolutely nothing to worry about. I’m complying with this court order, and in case they are not aware, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will not recognize any other person besides me as PDP National Secretary.”

What This Means for PDP

With internal tensions within the PDP leadership, Anyanwu’s dismissal of the governors’ communiqué signals an ongoing power struggle. However, with court rulings backing his position, it remains to be seen how the party will navigate these internal disputes.
